Greenscape completes land restoration project converting disused, overgrown land into a series of horse paddocks and a horse menage enclosed with post and rail fencing.
Working in the grounds of a private residential property in Norwich, Norfolk Greenscape Ecological were tasked with completing all necessary site clearance and enabling works, followed by the creation of horse paddocks and a menage area for schooling the horses. Woooden post and rail fencing was installed to safely enclose the horses in their new home and schooling area.
The area within which the horse paddocks were to be created was overgrown with brambles, self seeded saplings and nettles, as well as large earth mounds created by foundation excavations by the previous property owner. To prepare the site for the introduction of horse grazing, vegetation clearance was undertaken across the site which removed all undesirable ruderal vegetation maximizing the area available for grazing and allowing a clear view of the site to appropriately design the paddocks layout.
The site supports a low density of semi-mature trees which were retained as they provide important areas of shade for the horses, and would enhance the natural aesthetics of the area. In order to retain the trees whilst protecting them from browsing by the horses crown lifting was completed to remove the lower branches of the trees.
Once the necessary vegetation clearance and remedial tree works were complete the team set to re-profile the entire site to grade out the uneven terrain. Surplus topsoil already present on site was transferred to the paddock area and profiled evenly throughout the site to give an even, flat terrain in which the horses could graze.
With the major ground work complete the installation of the fencing began. The ménage and dividing fences were constructed from timber post and rail fencing. For the larger lengths of boundary fence, the more cost effective tensioned horse netting" was used. In addition to this Greenscape installed a series of field gates for access.
Finally the ground was cultivated and seeded.
